Roulette Rules

When it comes to betting options in Roulette, you have a lot to work with. There are dozens of options to choose from and you are not limited to just one at a time. Understanding all the possible bets in a game of Roulette will help you reach the maximum payout potential of a successful prediction. That is to say, if you have a prediction of a single number, placing bets in such a way that multiple wagers all apply to that one prediction will result in the maximum possible benefit a round of Roulette has to offer, no matter which version you are playing.

Roulette Bets

Roulette bets can be separated into categories, the first of which is referred to as inside bets. The field of inside bets includes many options, which we’ll detail below.

Inside Bets

A single, or straight, bet is a wager that the outcome will be a single number. The bet is placed directly on the square o the given number.

A split bet is a wager the outcome will be one of two adjacent, either vertically or horizontally, numbers (e.g. 14-17 or 8-9).  The bet is placed on any border between two common numbers.

A street bet is a wager the outcome will be one of three consecutive numbers (e.g. 7-8-9). The bet is placed on the outside border of a horizontal line of numbers.

A corner, or square, bet is a wager the outcome will be one of three consecutive numbers (e.g. 7-8-9). The bet is placed on the shared corner.

A six line, or double street, bet is A wager the outcome will be one of six numbers that share two adjacent horizontal lines (e.g. 31-32-33-34-35-36). The bet is placed on the outside corner of the two numbers on the right or left.

A trio bet is a wager the outcome will be one of three numbers that includes a 0, such as 0-1-2 (American or European Rules); 0-2-3 (European Roulette only); 0-00-2 or 00-2-3 (American Roulette only). The bet is placed on the outside corner of the two numbers on the right or left.

A basket, or first four, bet is a wager placed on 0-1-2-3 (European Roulette only). The bet is placed on the outside corner shared by 0-1 or 0-3.

A top line bet is a wager placed on 0-00-1-2-3 (American Roulette only). The bet is placed on the outside corner shared by 0-1 or 00-3.

Outside Bets

The second set of wagering options is referred to as Outside Bets. Each outside bet has a specific position that is clearly labeled on the table.

A low, or manque, bet is a wager the outcome will fall between 1 and 18.

A high, or passe, bet is a wager the outcome will fall between 19 and 36.

A red or black, or rouge ou noir, bet is a wager the outcome will be either red or black.

The Top Roulette Bets

Whether you are new to the game or are an experienced roulette player, there are several bets that you can utilize for dependable returns. By adhering to these betting actions, you can ensure your losses are minimized as you play and venture out into more advanced betting strategies.

The first and most dependable bets emerge in the form of 50/50 bets. These are bets that offer a 50% chance of return. 50/50 bets include Red/Black, Even/Odd, and 1-18/19-36 bets. While the number of zeros will influence the house edge on your roulette betting, these bets offer the biggest advantage. 50/50 bets typically payout 1:1 on a wager.

Column bets are another great avenue to explore. These bets include the three columns of numbers on the betting field and offer the second-best odds on the roulette table. The columns don’ contain consecutive numbers and are a mixture of red and black positions.  Column bets payout at 2:1 on a wager.

The third bet you should consider including in our repertoire is black and third/red and second column bets. This bet I a good example of how to hedge a bet. That is, to minimize your potential losses. The bet is a useful one because each column contains a mixture of red and black positions that you can use to your advantage. The third column has more red numbers than any other column and the second column offers the same advantage when it comes to black numbers. This bet pays out at 2:1 on a wager.

The straight bet is one every player should consider at some point. It is by far the riskiest, but it offers the highest payout. A straight bet is the player’s prediction the roulette ball will come to rest on a specific number position out of the 36 available. The Straight bet pays 35:1 on a wager.

Finally, the Split bet is one to consider. A split bet is a prediction the roulette ball will land on one of two numbers that are adjacent to each other on the betting field. Place your wager on the shared border between the two numbers. If you’re right, you’ll get paid out at 18:1 on your wager.

Utilize these and many more bets on the roulette table to see how well you can turn your predictions into payouts. Look at our other resources for more information on
